Chiropractic Care: The Key to Undoing the Opioid Epidemic?

Our nation is in the grips of an opioid epidemic caused by the overuse of prescription painkillers. The dependence on painkillers destroys lives and tears families apart. In some cases, it can even lead to a dependence on harder drugs, like heroin.

But there is a solution, one lawmakers are starting to recognize. Chiropractic care and other natural pain management efforts, such as acupuncture and massage therapy, serve as an effective answer to prescription drugs.

In the past we’ve addressed the true meaning of wellness. Wellness does not happen the way our popular culture likes to believe it does. Conventional wisdom says we’ve all either got a chemical deficiency which must be cured with pills, or we’ve just got too many darn organs which have to be removed.

Medicine has its place. If you have diabetes, then, by all means, you need to take your insulin. Your body is failing to produce enough of a substance it normally produces naturally, and that problem must be addressed.

But for many conditions, popping a pill is not the only answer. It’s not even the best answer.

If pain has a physical cause, masking the pain with pills won’t help. Instead, the patient’s dependence on pills can only grow less and less effective as they take more. The real answer is to address the underlying reasons for the pain. To correct the injury or problem which is causing it in the first place.

Correct the problem and the pain goes away for good. There is no need for a pill of any kind.

You’d be surprised by the amount and types of pain which can be addressed this way.  Of course, it’s important to realize pain cannot typically be managed and addressed in a single visit. Sometimes healing takes time, effort, and an investment into your own body and health.

This doesn’t mean you’ll need lifelong visits, any more than you ought to need lifelong pain pills. It just means there’s no such thing as an instant solution when it comes to healing. Chiropractors are often criticized for saying this, even though any honest physician would tell you precisely the same thing about most conditions. Some take less time to heal than others, but even conditions properly treated with antibiotics and other medicines typically require more than a single dose or round of treatment to correct.

Are you in pain? Before asking your doctor for a prescription consider coming to see us. We can help you manage a whole host of physical conditions which could be the underlying cause for your pain. Our methods are natural, healthy, and are not habit-forming.
